Finding Purpose in Life

"It's not about you." I think this is one of the most profound statements I've ever heard. It is the first sentence in the first chapter of The Purpose Driven Life. When I finally got to the point in my life where I was able to grasp the simple fact that "it's not about you," it changed the way I look at everything that happens. It changed how I react to things that happen in my life. Since I have committed my life to be a follower of Christ and to try to honor and glorify Him, I have to believe that everything that happens is for a reason, and that reason is to cause me to draw closer to Him. Remember that God is the One in control of this world and He either makes things happen or allows things to happen in order to work out His purposes. Even when I don't understand with my limited human mind why something happened the way it did doesn't mean that God isn't in control. He allows the things that happen to happen for His purposes which are so much higher than the human mind can comprehend. His purpose is much bigger than my little world, and everything doesn't revolve around me. It's not about YOU -- it's not about ME -- IT's all about HIM!

"You exist only because God wills that you exist. You were made by God and for God -- and until you understand that, life will never make sense. It is only in God that we discover our origin, our identity, our meaning, our purpose, our significance, and our destiny." The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren

For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. Colossians 1:16

We went through the book about 3 years ago. It is an excellent study. Our sole purpose is to bring glory to God in a relationship with Him. Through that, we are to show others the way to Him!

Great post, Kathy! Thank you for the reminder - It's not about me!
