The Man

For the past few days, I have been promoting some of my favorite blogs and I've had a lot of fun doing that. Today I want to tell you about a very special person who doesn't have a blog, but who has made such a dramatic impact in the lives of hundreds, maybe thousands of young people. I'd like to tell you about the love of my life, Eddie. I will use a symbolic last name for us rather than our real last name. I will use "Theman" since he's The Man in my life.

I won't go into how we met or started dating, because I did that in an earlier post a few months ago. But today I'd like to tell you what makes Eddie so special. First and foremost, he's a Christian man who loves the Lord, his wife, and his family, and he lives what he believes. He's been a wonderful and faithful husband to me for nearly 27 years. I mean, I have been so greatly blessed with a man who not only tells me every day that he loves me, but shows it in every way imaginable. I don't think a day ever goes by without him telling me, "You're a good-looking ____year-old." (I'm not going to fill in the blank -- it just sounds too old!). I mean, maybe I looked okay 10 years ago, but he doesn't even notice the effects of age after all these years -- he just loves me! If he goes to the grocery store or Wal Mart for something, he always brings back something special for me like some chocolate, or some type of food that he knows I love. Last night he was going to the store and I had mentioned that I needed something to take to work for lunch, but I told him not to get anything because I didn't want him having to walk all over the store. But he came home with all these frozen dinners, the expensive kind that I wouldn't buy for myself, most of them Mexican food just because he knows how much I love Mexican. And he brought me back another little treat because he knew it would make me happy. Another thing he does that is so sweet is he takes my car out and fills it with gas so that I won't have to worry with it. He takes care of our yardwork so that our property looks really nice in the neighborhood. He works a full time job and a part time job so that our family can have everything we need and much more. When our son was little, Eddie helped to coach his baseball teams and they did a lot of father/son activities together.

Eddie's profession is teaching. He teaches science to kids at the age most of us would want to avoid -- 8th graders. But he has a heart for teaching and a heart for kids, and the kids know it because it shows. Did you ever have that one special teacher that you always remembered because they were so much fun, or so interesting, or because they just cared? Well, that is Mr. Theman! I hope I don't sound like I'm bragging because this is the truth. The students absolutely love this teacher, and not only when they are in 8th grade, but years and years later. Some of them keep in touch with him or call him years after they've finished with school. Parents of the kids send him notes about what a great teacher he is. When we go to the mall in our city, we can't get anything accomplished because every few steps we take, we get stopped by students or former students recognizing him and coming up to hug him or shake his hand and talk. We can't go to a restaurant without seeing someone that he taught -- and these people don't avoid him, they want to talk to him. Just last week, a man in his 20's was at my office and before he left I told him he looked really familiar and asked if he went to my church. He said that he did and he asked my name. When I told him Kathy "Theman" he excitedly said, "Are you Mr. Theman's wife?!" I said yes, and he started talking about how Mr. Theman was the nicest person and the only teacher who ever made him want to learn, and on and on. I mean, it just amazes me the things people say about my husband. I really don't mean to sound boastful, but I am proud of Eddie and I just wanted to tell you about him so you'd know the kind of man God so graciously blessed me with.

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her. Ephesians 5:25

Vintage bunny, yes my daughter will be with us when we go on our trip. Oh my! That might not be a good thing...

Denise, congrats on having a nice long marriage and a great Eddie also. I will check out your blog as well.

Sindi, yes, he is a good example of what God meant for husbands to be. Don't get me wrong, though, he's not perfect and like everyone, we have our problems. But the good far outweighs the bad.

Amel, thanks! I hope that you will have a long and loving marriage also!
