I enjoy watching HGTV when I have the time. Some of the shows are about decorating the house, and others are about making improvements that will help to sell the house. These interior decorators are able to take the most cluttered, sad-looking homes and transform them into every woman's dream house. It just amazes me because while I can appreciate a beautifully decorated house, I am "learning disabled" when it comes to doing it myself. I feel absolutely helpless and inadequate when trying to make my house look beautiful because I have no talent for decorating. I would have to hire a professional interior decorator to get my house looking like the finished products on HGTV.
I have a feeling that some people experience this kind of helplessness when trying to live the Christian life. I mean, just look at the Ten Commandments and you realize that no normal human being can live up to all the requirements set before us in just these ten areas, let alone everything else the Bible tells us to do and to be. That is why we need a Savior -- this is why God gave us His only Son. Jesus is our interior decorator who will transform our cluttered, ugly lives into beautiful, renewed lives. When Jesus transforms a life, the old things are gone and all things are new -- God sees you as clean and unblemished because He sees Christ instead of you. And when you are too weak to live the Christian life in your own power, His strength is made perfect in your weakness. Starting today, don't feel defeated any longer when trying to live the Christian life. Let Jesus transform your spiritual home into a fresh, clean, beautiful life.
Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is -- his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:2

Good post Kathy. When our life is in a mess, the Lord is more than willing to give you an "Extreme Makeover-Soul Edition."
Hi, Kathy!
I have no talent for decorating, either. I tried doing it in The Sims game, but I've always managed to make everything look cluttered. My hubby, on the contrary, can decorate houses in the game VERY well. So I guess if we ever have a house one day, I'll trust him with that task.
When it comes to Christian life...you got that right. I've always loved the encouragement I get by hearing "His strength is made perfect in your weakness". Ah...like an oasis in the desert! ;-D
Kathy - I too am decoratingly challenged. I love watching HGTV but then get all these ideas and don't have the foggiest how to implement them!!! So sad but true. My mother-in-law is the exact opposite. No matter what she does, puts up, etc. it always looks perfect.
Yes - the Lord can take what looks like a cluttered messed up life and make it into something beautiful, if we will just let Him!
Thank you for such a great analogy!
Kat,
I just love when you talk about how christians should be. I feel as though I learn when I come to your blog. I am reminded of things that I have forgotten over the years. Thank you :)
Thanks everyone, for your encouraging comments! Do y'all like getting comments on your blog as much as I do???
